The oldest tourist scenic route in Germany exists more than 75 years. Initially a service road for wood transport at high elevation, it evolved to a major highway and one of the most spectacular scenic routes in Germany, the B500.

The Ruhestein Nature Reserve holds a lot of information on the development and history of the Black Forest. The Schliffkopf rangers organise events, exhibitions and hiking tours across the unique Schliffkopf Nature Reserve. Highlights include guided walks along the Lothar Path.

Freudenstadt is the main town in the northern Black Forest Region and it has the largest arcaded market square in Germany. Freudenstadt hosts many cultural events throughout the year.
Tip: Guided tours and a visit to the glass factory are particularly good events.
